Air Force News

         Col Mike Lee, USAF

All of the cadets from Det 280 finally made it home from camps around the country. In the meantime we welcomed in a new Freshman class and started planning to work them into the fold. As in past years, some came in ready for bear, some looked like they were carrying a bear during our first Physical Fitness Test run, and still others were as shaggy as a bear and will bring money to the coffers of Lawrence barbers.

As I mentioned earlier, our Det will grow to about 90 cadets, and we've taken cadets into every class except the senior class. The interest in AF Nursing is expanding and we find we need to develop a whole new schedule to accommodate all of the time conflicts associated with a nursing school schedule and the normal flow at KU in Lawrence.

We plan to get some combat survival training from our friends at Whiteman AFB this semester, spend some time.

earning and experiencing the AF deployment process and developing a program to keep our fifth year seniors imbedded in blue by working side by side with officers and NCOs from the 190th Air Refueling Wing at Forbes. We already miss Col Mike O'Toole one of our greatest supporters in the area, and we send our best to his special wife and family. They will always find a warm welcome here at KU.

We will hold an AF Birthday cake cutting in September on or about the 18th. The price of admittance will be letting us know you want to come, and a few good War Stories. Give the Det a call at 864-4676.

Thanks again for all you do. The association our cadets get with MOAA members is invaluable.

Col Mike Lee
