5-STAR CHAPTER

2003 / 2004

President’s Corner

by Bob Longino

Jayhawk Chapter Members:

As your new President, it is my pleasure to address the Jayhawk Chapter in the first newsletter of my tenure. I would be remiss if I didn’t start out by passing along my personal thanks to last year’s chapter leadership. Tom Carmody and crew turned over the reins of a chapter in top-shape. A special thanks also needs to be passed along to Buck Newsom, who served as our treasurer for the past 12 years, and Jeff Heeb, who served as our secretary for the past seven years. Both gentlemen put forth super efforts on behalf of our chapter. I wonder if anyone told Jim Cooper how long he was signing on for as our new treasurer!

I would also like to comment on the great turnout for our January meeting. It looked like the Country Club staff was scrambling to seat everyone. That was great so let’s try to fill up the place at our March meeting. Call a member you know that hasn’t attended for a while and personally invite them to the meeting. Our new 1st Vice President, Ray Finch, is lining up some real talent as our guest speakers.

Finally, I look forward to a fantastic year with our chapter in 2005. We’ve assembled a tremendous leadership team so please give us your ideas on growing and improving our chapter of MOAA here in Lawrence America!

                                                Semper Fi,

                                                            Bob Longino
