Greetings to all, from the Jayhawk Battalion! We have begun a new school year and will be building on our strengths as we go. This past summer our juniors attended the National Advanced Leadership Camp with all the other cadets from around the country. Fifty percent of our cadets finished in the top ranking (the top third block) on their evaluations! This is a great testament to the training and preparation they get back here in Lawrence. We are very proud of this class as they begin their senior years as our leaders. Cadet Wes Wilson of Topeka and Baker University is our cadet battalion commander this fall. His cadet command sergeant major is James Tullis of McClouth and KU. Both our airborne, Phil Hickson, and air assault, Tullis, cadets earned their coveted silver wings this summer, as well. We have over 25 new cadets in the program this fall and overall they are of tremendous quality. This past weekend we took them up to Ft Leavenworth for some field training, repelling, and an obstacle course (as well as a barbecue and an introduction to the MRE!) They are now a well-bonded group of young students and will do very well in the battalion.

Our Open House and Parents Day activities will occur from 1000-1200 at the MSB on Saturday, 20 September. I will be giving a KU-Military History tour as part of the activities.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy Autumn and we hope to see you sometime on the Hill!

JAYHAWKS LEAD THE WAY!
